RapidSMS

RapidSMS is a free and open-source framework for dynamic data collection, logistics coordination and communication, leveraging basic short message service (SMS) mobile phone technology.

One of the biggest challenges facing field operations in the developing world is access to accurate, reliable and timely information. With the recent proliferation of technology throughout the developing world, the ability to improve this access has become cheaper and the tools to do so more ubiquitous.

Created in the field for actual project implementations, RapidSMS establishes a vibrant two-way flow of communication. Stakeholders at all levels are empowered with a dynamic tool for advanced data collection, analysis and communication. For example, community health care workers are now using RapidSMS to identify, diagnose and track sick children.

RapidSMS is a free and open source framework for developing SMS based applications.

• RapidSMS is based on the Django web application framework and written in Python.
• RapidSMS is designed is an enterprise level web solution yet is capable of running in rugged environments that are completely offline.  The only basic requirement for RapidSMS is power and cell phone coverage.
